This site is being developed to provide information on the actions, battles and activities of the 1st Armoured Division (UK), during the Second World War. The decision to do this was made for two reasons, one in memory of my Grandfather, who served with the Queen’s Bays (2nd Dragoon Guards), a regiment of the Division, and because I have not found a great deal of readily available information covering the details mentioned within the site.
The addition of content will be a slow process; I try to make sure a section has the correct information and is of benefit to the reader. The content added will not necessarily be in chronological order, but will develop into a story which will cover the entire period. I hope to include material on the training of the Regiment, and how it developed through the war.
I could not put this together without assistance; I thank those who have most sincerely. I especially thank Andrew Newson, who has spent quite a bit of time in the National Archives (UK) copying documents for me. I also thank Michael Deacon for reading much of the content and making suggestions on improving my work. I also thank members of both the WW2Talk and WW2f.com forums which, though mostly unaware, have inspired me to do this work, especially to the late Tom Canning.
